5-Ingredient Taco Casserole Recipe

  • Author: Victoria

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 lb ground turkey or chicken
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, rinsed
  • 1 cup salsa
  • 2 cups tortilla chips, crushed
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or a mix)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your casserole will cook evenly and the cheese will melt to perfection.
  2. Brown the meat. In a skillet, cook the ground turkey or chicken over medium heat until it’s browned and fully cooked. This usually takes about 5-7 minutes. Make sure to break up the meat as it cooks for an even texture.
  3. Add beans and salsa. Stir in the rinsed black beans and salsa to the cooked meat. Mix well to combine all the flavors, allowing the mixture to simmer for another 5 minutes.
  4. Layer the casserole. In a baking dish, begin layering your ingredients. Start with a layer of crushed tortilla chips, followed by the meat mixture, and then a layer of shredded cheese. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a generous layer of cheese on top.
  5. Bake. Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  6. Serve and enjoy! Remove the casserole from the oven and let it sit for a few minutes before serving. This will help the layers set slightly, making it easier to cut into portions.
