Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 cup broccoli florets
- 1 cup snap peas
- 1 carrot, julienned
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp ginger, minced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and cornstarch. Add the thinly sliced beef to the mixture, ensuring each piece is well-coated. Let the beef marinate for at least 15 minutes. This step not only flavors the meat but also tenderizes it, making it juicy and succulent when cooked.
While the beef is marinating, take the time to prep your vegetables. Thinly slice the red and yellow bell peppers, julienne the carrot, and chop the broccoli and snap peas into bite-sized pieces. Having the vegetables ready before you start cooking is crucial, as stir-frying happens quickly, and you don’t want to be caught off guard.
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot but not smoking, add the marinated beef. Stir-fry the beef for about 3-4 minutes until it is browned and cooked through. Be careful not to overcook the beef; you want it to remain tender. Once done, remove the beef from the pan and set it aside on a plate.
In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Toss in the minced garlic and ginger, stirring quickly until they become fragrant, which should take about 30 seconds. Next, add the broccoli, snap peas, and carrots to the pan. Stir-fry these vegetables for about 2-3 minutes, ensuring they retain their bright color and crisp texture. After that, add the sliced bell peppers and cook for another 2 minutes. The vegetables should be tender but still have a slight crunch.
Return the cooked beef to the pan, stirring it in with the vegetables. Drizzle the stir-fry with sesame oil for an extra layer of flavor. To finish, sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve the stir-fry hot over a bed of steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
