Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup sushi rice
- 2 cups water
- 1 avocado, sliced
- 1 cucumber, thinly sliced
- 1 carrot, grated
- 1 cup imitation crab meat (or cooked chicken)
- 2 tbsp mayo (or vegan mayo)
- 1 tsp sriracha (optional)
- 2 sheets nori, cut into strips
- Sesame seeds for garnish
- Soy sauce for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the Rice
- Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This step is crucial to remove excess starch and achieve the perfect texture.
- In a pot, combine the rice and water. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let it sit for 10 minutes. This allows the rice to absorb any remaining moisture and achieve the desired fluffiness.
- Prepare the Spicy Mayo
- In a small bowl, mix the mayo and sriracha (if using). This will create a creamy and spicy topping that complements the bowl’s flavors.
- Assemble the Bowl
- In a serving bowl, layer the cooked rice as the base.
- Arrange the sliced avocado, cucumber, grated carrot, and imitation crab meat (or cooked chicken) on top of the rice.
- Add the Finishing Touches
- Drizzle the spicy mayo over the top of the bowl.
- Add nori strips for a classic sushi flavor and sprinkle with sesame seeds for a bit of crunch and nuttiness.
- Serve
- Serve with soy sauce on the side, allowing each person to season their bowl to taste.
