Easy Homemade Seitan Stir-Fry Recipe

  • Author: Victoria

Ingredients

Scale

  • For the Seitan:

    • 1 cup vital wheat gluten
    • 2/3 cup vegetable broth
    • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • For the Stir-Fry:

    • 1 tbsp olive oil
    • 2 cups mixed vegetables (such as bell peppers, broccoli, and carrots)
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 tsp ginger, minced

  • For Serving:

    • Cooked rice or noodles

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Seitan

  1. Mix Ingredients: In a bowl, combine 1 cup of vital wheat gluten, 2/3 cup of vegetable broth, and 2 tablespoons of soy sauce. Stir until the mixture is well combined.
  2. Knead the Dough: Knead the mixture for about a minute until a dough forms. This will help develop the gluten strands, giving the seitan its characteristic texture.
  3. Shape and Steam: Shape the dough into strips, then steam them for 30 minutes. Once done, allow them to cool slightly before proceeding.

Step 2: Cook the Stir-Fry

  1. Sauté Aromatics: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add 2 cloves of minced garlic and 1 teaspoon of minced ginger. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  2. Add Vegetables: Toss in 2 cups of mixed vegetables. Cook for approximately 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  3. Incorporate Seitan: Cut the steamed seitan into bite-sized pieces, add them to the pan, and cook until the seitan is heated through and well combined with the vegetables.

Step 3: Serve

  1. Serve the Dish: Serve the hot stir-fry over a bed of cooked rice or noodles. Enjoy your flavorful, protein-packed meal!
