  • Author: Samantha

Ingredients

Scale

To create this savory dish, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 1 jar grape leaves (canned, rinsed)
  • 1 cup rice (short or medium grain)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup fresh herbs (a mix of parsley, dill, and mint)
  • 1 lemon (juiced)
  • 2 cups vegetable broth or water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil

Instructions

Follow these easy steps to make your stuffed grape leaves:

  1. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a pan, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat.
    • Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent.
    • Stir in the rice, salt, and pepper, and cook for about 2 minutes, allowing the rice to absorb the flavors.
  2. Mix the Ingredients:
    • Remove the pan from the heat.
    • Add the chopped fresh herbs and lemon juice to the rice mixture, stirring to combine all ingredients thoroughly.
  3. Wrap the Grape Leaves:
    • Lay a grape leaf flat on a clean surface with the vein side up.
    • Place a spoonful of the rice and herb filling at the base of the leaf.
    • Fold in the sides and roll the leaf tightly, starting from the base and working your way up.
  4. Cook the Stuffed Leaves:
    • Arrange the stuffed grape leaves in a pot, seam side down, in a single layer or slightly overlapping.
    • Pour the vegetable broth or water over the leaves, ensuring they are mostly covered.
    • Cover the pot and simmer on low heat for about 40 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked.
  5. Serve:
    • Allow the stuffed grape leaves to cool slightly before serving.
    • Drizzle with olive oil and a squeeze of lemon juice for extra flavor.
